International Law Association - Cypriot Branch

The Cypriot Branch of the ILA was established on 14 November 2015. Its founding was approved on that date by the Executive Council of the ILA in London. On 12 May 2016, the application for the establishment of an association under the name “International Law Association – Cypriot Branch” to the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus was accepted.

The objectives of the Cypriot Branch of the ILA, according to Article 5 of its Statute, are inter alia the promotion of the objectivess of the ILA among persons of Cypriot nationality, and among persons normally resident in Cyprus and the promotion of the understanding and the progressive development of international law in all its aspects in Cyprus.

International Law Association - French Branch

The French Branch of the ILA was founded in 1925 as the “Association Internationale de Droit”. It has been responsible for the organization of the 39th International Conference of the ILA in Paris in 1936. In 1966, it changed its name to become the “Association de Droit International – Branche française de l’International Law Association”.  What makes it peculiar in France is that it gathers both public and private international lawyers, in a country where this distinction still makes sense today in some aspects. Today, there are more than 250 members in the French Branch, which makes it one of the most important of the ILA.

International Law Association - Hellenic Branch

The Hellenic Branch of the ILA is one of the oldest branches of the ILA, being established in 1911.  It took its present form in 1998, when it was incorporated as an association under Greek law. It brings together international lawyers, academics and practitioners alike. In the spirit of the objectives of the ILA, the Hellenic Brach is strongly committed to the study and development of public and private international law. To this effect its members play an important role in the work of the ILA committees and study groups, contributing to the advancement of international law and the creation of closer ties between international lawyers. During the last decade it has implemented a policy of extroversion, mainly addressed to the Legal Profession in Greece. It organised and hosted the 2013 ILA Regional Conference

(Imperium iuris: Governance, Trade, Resources - 29-31 August 2013 at Cape Sounion)

The International Law Association was founded in Brussels in 1873. Its objectives, under its Constitution, are “the study, clarification and development of international law, both public and private, and the furtherance of international understanding and respect for international law”. The ILA has consultative status, as an international non-governmental organisation, with a number of United Nations (UN) specialised agencies.
